Amazing people who make me go on n on n on:)

I Kinda Hate Growing up!

I kinda like being a grown up but I kinda hate growing up!
Sometimes I resist growing up...
For it means giving up on
~The thought that books could actually teach me all.
~That Santa Claus does descend with joys n hence I left my door ajar in the freezing night with the biggest stocking I could find, by my bed side.
~When I watched over EVERY act of mine for eventual accountability, dreading that heaven n hell does exist, even if they were not on the map.
~When I convinced myself that my life sucked for I had no real best friend like on the series F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
~When the only thing I was responsible for were the grades at school.
~When it was not drilled in, that you could yearn only as per what you earned.

~When birthdays were big and little gifts-bigger.
~When getting wet in the rain was as simple as just extending your step out under the open sky.
~When even a little loose change in the pocket was enough to give me a sense of security.
~When ‘Branded’ was a term used to imply types of television, refrigerators or stereo sets and the likes.
~When you kept getting up to check your bed sides for a phantom after watching a horror movie.
~When I believed fervently that my parents would never die.

~When journeys were begun without the process of working out the destination n path details.
~When I didn’t have to think so many times before making a mere phone call.
~When I believed that manipulative people would LOOK evil and if you keep doing right there is no way wrong would come your way.
~When patting your back was not an extension of back biting.
~When I asserted only perishable products had a shelf-life and not relationships.

~When I could just break down before my mother instead of pretending to be brave.
~When a tear itching the heart was not masked by the explanation of something itching the eye.
~When ‘logic’ was a big word that you had little to do with.
~When you could do whatever made you happy without the fear of being deemed as childish.
~When you said what you felt rather than what you felt would be preferred to be heard.

I kinda like being a grown up but I kinda hate growing up!

Hi Sakshi,
I know...kuch kar na yaar!
Jitne chote the...utne he sahi the:/
Anyways...sweetheart, you don’t need to crib...at least not yet...
Beautiful times await you...amen:-)

Hi Sadiya,
Thank you so much...
Even I don’t know how I am managing to impress you guys when I am not so impressed with what I write myself, these days:-)
Comments like these keep me writing though still:-)

suruchi said...

Hi Nikita,
Glad to have made you smile...
How we wish n how God transpires to see that what we pine for the most is often what we don’t get!
But then he also sees to it that whatever we are getting...is kinda making up for the mess:-)

suruchi said...

Hi Alka,
It is true..I hate the idea of being a grown up partly because we are expected to behave like one...I mean as if “being” like one is not bad enough:/
And hiding tears is the toughest part for me...for I often cry at even a slightly raised voice...so the fact that despite that very few people have actually seen my tears, takes its toll on me:-)

Thanks for reading me:-)

suruchi said...

Hi A,
My best post to date...wow, that’s a huge compliment.
Actually sensibilities n tastes differ...
I am so glad n thankful that there are takers also for the serious stuff that sometimes gets churned out of ‘Tumbling Thoughts’

Thank u again:-)
P.S. Maybe being "grown up" is not THAT bad after all;-)

Hi NAYK,
I guess the more social one becomes, the farther he goes from oneself...
And then one fine day you realize the hollowness of it all and you find your inner self waiting for u still
Whooooosh....what am I saying?

Pros n cons I guess...a random tear with a bit of a smile:-)

Anjali Anand said...

U know Suruchu, u make everything so simple and each one of us relates to that, hence it touches a chord somewhere but always brings out a smile.
So keep going...lottsa love to Seeya n u.

suruchi said...

Hi Anjali masi,
Thank you so much for always following whatever I write and also for the approval to all this madness that you give to me as a grown up I look upto...

Big hug n may your smiles continue forever n ever:-)

Even though we hate it yet we smile when we don't do what we used to do and were rewarded with childish adjective. But yes when blues attack even the smallest things ache and prick of pin cuts the whole.

you're so right darling! as a kid i couldnt wait to grow up. do my own thing, earn my own money, be independant etc. now i feel growing up isn't all it appears to be. i would totally love being reckless, not worrying and having my parents take care of me all over again :)

sigh such is life....

Hey Jo,
Thanks a lot...and so sweet to have proven that I rock...
Makes me wanna rock even more:-)

@Sm...so true...
Whatever the age...whatever the level of maturity..we always want what we don’t have...beautifully said:-)

suruchi said...

Hi Sameera
Awww...samosa I can miss at any time of the day...lol
And cat fights ,eh?
Interesting...especially if these involved some getting dirty in the mud n stuff...whoa..we’ll all miss that;-)

suruchi said...

Hey Persis,
Like it was said above...we always want what we don’t have or get...
Wish life was more simpler...
And we always had the luxury of being taken care of round the clock...like babies are...how we love to be spoilt na...spoilt rotten;-)

suruchi said...

Hi Akshay,
With you around to boost me like that...I think I never would:-)
And who would think such a brilliant thought that childhood provides bravery, logic n optimism...wow...just YOU:-)

And promise I’ll check the poem soon...if you have suggested it...it would definitely be worthwhile:-)
Thank you:-)

suruchi said...

Hi Ria,
Thank you...
We end up agreeing on most things:-)

@Shriya...yup, it is all in the mind...
But sometimes it helps to crib a little:-)

suruchi said...

Biky....awwwww
You first scold me for not wanting to grow up and then go on your own sweet trip down the memory lane...
Memories of the days gone by are such beautiful treasures...who would not want to whine about them?

And what you shared about your younger days here is so touching n sweet*see I said “younger” days and not days when you were young...coz aap abhi to jawaan hain he:-)*

Growing up is overrated. Growing is where the buck stops and the fun starts.

Hope you are well hon.

I know I'm missing a lot of posts here. You're just so prolific and me lazy! :)

suruchi said...

Hi Dusk,
Soooooooooo good to see you here again...
You have no idea HOW good:-)

And you return with such an apt statement:-)
Growing really holds it all:-)

Doing well and hope the same for you:-)

suruchi said...

Hey Blunts,
Wow...u are actually praising me here...*sniff, sniff...kahin daal mein kuch kaala to nahi hain?*
:-)

Thanks a ton...and we like you as you are:-)

Hmm… nice one… you got me back in those lovely days… But we can always be at our age of 16 in our hearts, and that would make us feel the most energetic at every grown up situation… The best I liked was something itching the eye… :)

suruchi said...

Hi Aparana,
Yes..the age is in the mind...
But there are days when such wise thoughts of consolation do not bear much fruit to a heart that seeks greater solace:-)

True Suruchi,
I feel very bad when mom repeats the same words 'You are grown up,take care of yourself'.
How wonderful it would be if we never grow up & jus be the kids.

Hi WS,
My god...so much appreciation:-)
Please feel free to use the lines yaar...though I am myself curious which lines moved you so much.

N don't worry about not being regular...most of us tend to get stuck in the rut every once in a while...
It's great to see u back whenever you can:-)

suruchi said...

Hi Neeha
Awwww..for moms though we never do grow up actually...
My mom still treats me like a kid checking me every time...though I do the same now...so we are just two grown up kids together at the end of the day:-)

@Rajeev,
Thank you:-)
